Jacob Jensen
A Design Icon
Brand Transformation, Product Strategy & Leadership
Jacob Jensen is one of Denmark’s most iconic design houses, known for its timeless, functional approach to industrial design and its historic collaboration with Bang & Olufsen.
The Challenge
How do you evolve a design icon without diluting its identity?
The brand carried a strong legacy but lacked the structure and direction required for contemporary relevance:
Strong heritage, but limited contemporary relevance
Fragmented product direction across categories
A business model that constrained scalability
The task was not reinvention—but clarification and continuation.
My Role
As CEO, I defined the strategic direction of the brand, leading:
Brand positioning and long-term vision
Product strategy and design direction
Development of a scalable partnership model
Alignment of brand, product and organization
Approach
1. Re-establishing the Core
We anchored the brand in its original principles—simplicity, functionality and human-centered design—reinterpreted for a contemporary context.
2. Creating Product Coherence
We established a clear product philosophy and design language across categories, focusing on clarity, usability and longevity.
3. Building a Scalable Model
We introduced a partnership-driven structure, separating brand and design from production and distribution to enable scale and flexibility.
4. Aligning Organization and Execution
We strengthened cross-functional alignment and introduced clearer structures—ensuring strategy translated into consistent execution.
Impact
Repositioned the brand with a clearer and more contemporary direction
Established a coherent product portfolio and design language
Regained control of core brand and product assets
Built a scalable foundation for international growth across multiple markets
Perspective
Design is not about preserving a legacy—it is about continuing it with clarity and intent.
