JACOB JENSEN
A Design Icon
Brand Transformation, Product Strategy & Leadership
Jacob Jensen is one of Denmark’s most iconic design houses, known for its timeless, functional approach to industrial design and its historic collaboration with Bang & Olufsen.
The Challenge
How do you evolve a design icon without diluting its identity?
When I joined, the brand faced a familiar but complex situation:
Strong heritage, but limited contemporary relevance
Fragmented product direction across categories
A business model that constrained scalability
The task was not reinvention—but clarification and continuation.
My Role
As CEO, I was responsible for:
Defining the strategic direction of the brand
Leading product and design philosophy
Establishing a scalable commercial and partnership model
Aligning brand, product and organization into a coherent whole
Approach
1. Re-establishing the Core
We anchored the brand in its original principles—simplicity, functionality and human-centered design—while interpreting them for a contemporary context.
This was not about looking back, but about restoring direction.
2. Creating Product Coherence
We moved from fragmented offerings to a clear product philosophy:
Everyday objects with purpose and presence
A consistent design language across categories
A focus on calmness, usability and longevity
3. Building a Scalable Model
To enable growth, we introduced a partnership-driven structure:
External partners for production, distribution and commercialization
Internal focus on brand, design and direction
A model designed for flexibility and international reach
4. Aligning Organization and Execution
We worked to connect strategy with execution:
Cross-functional alignment between design, product and business
Clear prioritization and decision-making structures
A culture focused on quality, clarity and responsibility
Impact
Repositioned the brand with a clearer and more contemporary direction
Established a coherent product portfolio and design language
Created a scalable foundation for international growth
Strengthened alignment between brand, product and business
Perspective
Design is not about preserving a legacy—it is about continuing it with clarity and intent.
The role of leadership is to create the conditions where that continuation becomes both meaningful and commercially viable.
